MUSIC INSPIRED BY ISLAMIC ART AND MATHEMATICS with mobius

Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, November 2000

This project was a collaboration between mobius and the Fitzwilliam Museum. Children from Kettlefields Primary School explored links between maths, music and Islamic Art - inspired by the Museum's Islamic Collection: patterning, codes, symmetry, tesselation....

Hitting National Curriculum buttons and fun too, this innovative approach to music, art and maths has been welcomed by the school's Head teacher, Sarah Humphreys "Linking areas of the curriculum so that they benefit one another and children learn to make connections which would aid their learning is where the future lies. Foundation subjects will suffer unless we can find a way to integrate them - together with Core subjects"

This project has been sponsored by The Year of the Artist, The David Urwin Arts Award, The National Foundation for Youth Music, and Maths Year 2000, and is supported by Cambridge Film and Television Productions.
